Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a 50" Plasma at Harvey Norman on the weekend.
Going to take advantage of the 30 months interest free, any suggestions what
model I should go. Looking at paying up to $3500.

Is there anyone else at the moment doing interest free?

Cheers

You're paying interest in the form of paying $1500-2000 too much.
Shop around, including mail order, and stick it on a 25% credit card. If you
pay it off in a year, you'll save $500 over being ripped off at Harvey Norman.

If I pay the unit off in the interest free period which I will, I won't be
paying any interest, I have done it before, cheers

It isn't free. You're simply paying the interest up front in the form of
paying too much.

Not true. The price advertised applies to those paying the full amount up
front as well.

What he means, is that the actual purchase price you pay will basically
be significantly higher when using these 'interest free' deals.

Ask salesman how much for cash. It will be significantly lower.
I personally hate Harvey Normans. They make you haggle for discounts and
always offer to show you their 'cost price'. In many rural places
however, there isn't much else on offer though.

They don't own any money trees. Financing costs them money and the costs
are passed along to the consumer wether you're too stupid to realize it or
not. If you're charged the same wether or not you finance then it simply
means that the additional cost of the financing is passed to everybody wether
or not they're financing. I wouldn't buy from them for that reason alone.

Do you think they're a charity outfit that doesn't have to make a profit?
You t think costs are generously donated just out of goodwill?
I'd like to sell you a bridge.

Good guys tend to be, erm... Good, as you say.
But in my experience over the past year or two, you just never know who
will come up with the best deal any more.
e.g. I almost bought an electric blanket from the Good Guys - was easily
the best price I found until by chance I went into Target... bugger me
they were even cheaper (for once). You just never know.

Also, I think it varies hugely depending on your region, ie; Harvey
Norman at bloggstown QLD never ever gives a good deal, whereas HN at
boganville NSW is often the best of the bunch.

That response made no sense at all, given the context for it.
Possibly you were grasping for an excuse to attack atec 77?
